PLEASE watch this VIDEO may change your LIFE:
The I am too cool for a HELMET FADE was so 2008. It is 2009 homie G funk yo.
I for one was not the best at wearing a helmet and still today Dec. 21, 2008 I am still not the best but I am A LOT BETTER than I use to be and I am still improving. I NEVER wore a helmet back in the day and when I look back at all the crazy things I have done it seems pretty stupid but at the time you really do not think about it.
Today I am at a point that when I am not wearing a helmet during certain sytles of skating I feel naked, like something is missing. I am not trying to say I am the best perosn at wearing a helmet because I am not but I have begun to take steps in my life to become better and YOU SHOULD JOIN ME. I try to wear my helmet during the following occasions:
TECHNICAL SLIDING & ANY SLIDING
When I am charging down a hill doing standup slides or on my slide board spining 1080's or doing huge colemans I try always to wear my helmet. WHY? because when doing backside stand up slides which are super fun you run the risk of screwing up, catching your back wheels and falling over backwards and smacking your head. Yeah, that has happened to me. When technical sliding and going fast it is easy for you to get out of control and go flying into a curb, parked car. Even the best of the best fall. I find for sliding it just makes sense to wear a helmet, does not get in the way, gives me extra confidence (don't get too cocky though), you are not wearing it constantly for long periods of time and if it is hot take it off as you walk back up the hill.
SPEEDBOARDING / HIGH SPEED MOUNTAIN FREE-RIDING
If you are going fast it is ABSOLUTELY neccessary to wear a helmet. If you only could see the crazy roads we skate here in CA, haha you would wear a helmet and pee in your pants. I can HONESTLY SAY if I did not wear a helmet when skating mountains/racing I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD. Yeah, I have hit my head many times and cracked my helmet. Sure I could make it down without a helmet in fact I could make it down buck naked and live but it only takes ONE TIME. When you are riding close to your friends 35-50mph plus going into hairpin turns, drafting who knows what can happen... all it takes is your friend to slide out on a turn and you not being able to avoid him and go crashing into him. Rocks, yeah they are all over the road and can pitch you right off, taking bad lines it happens to the best of us and it can result in you hitting a guard rail, cars---the biggest obsticle of it all. NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU HAVE A RUN DOWN, POOP HAPPENS. Even if you are skating neighborhood hills, a HELMET IS A MUST.
DANCING / CARVING
Longboarding dacning is pretty chill but as we all know it is easy to get off balance, hit a rock and bam you have hit your head. Use good judgement, and wear your helmet when dancing and grooving. I still need to work on this a bit.
LONG DISTANCE SKATING
Long distance skating is my helmet weakness. WHY because wearing a helmet for 6-8 hours a day under hot crueling conditions for 2 months straight seems, HOT, ANNOYING, SWEATY, UNCOMFORTABLE, etc. Most long distance skate trips invovle a lot of flat land & slight up hill pushing. Of course there are crazy downhills, cars and uncharter road ahead but these seem not to out weight all the slow going pushing. I did not wear a helmet across the US, FRANCE or NEW ZELAND and it was STUPID. Who knows what I shall do in the future. Should I wear a helmet? Yes. Be the better person and wear a helmet
IF YOU DON'T SEE ME WEARING A HELMET IN A VIDEO THEN IT IS AN OLD LONGBOARDING VIDEO. IN ALL THE NEW VIDEOS EVERYONE IS WEARING A HELMET AND SINGING WITH POLAR BEARS.
